I'm all of a flutter over the imminent publication by Routledge of my translation of a fascinating and entertaining book by a renowned figure in the field, Prof. Dr Andreas Hamburger: Film Psychoanalysis, relational approaches to film interpretation.
It was my good fortunate to take over the translation of this complex and rewarding project after several false starts and delays, so it is especially satisfying to see it finally come to fruition.
Dr Hamburger was extremely patient, kind and understanding during the arduous translation process. I was humbled to find a mention in his acknowledgements, where he gave me special thanks, calling me a "wonderful, inspiring translator who noticed every single ambiguity in the text and checked and corrected every shoddy quotation".
The German book is a real page-turner and I was keen to transmit or even enhance this effect in the translation. In the process, I learned all about the truly fascinating history of cinema, and how film psychoanalysis is practised by and on audiences.
This book deserves to reach an even wider public in the English-speaking world and I trust it will now do so.
